Print Creations by ArcSoft is a very simple Mac scrapbooking software program. It will be most appealing to individuals who are just starting out in digital scrapbooking.

The software offers a standard selection of photo and text editing capabilities. One nice feature the program does have is the automatic face detection which identifies faces in the image and centers it based on their location within the image.

Among the many drawbacks of this Mac scrapbooking software are the obvious missing ability to crop a photo. You can only enlarge, reduce and rotate the image. The rotate feature is really simple to use. There is the standard rotation icon that automatically rotates one quarter-turn every time you click on it. Then there is the rotation feature of the actual text or element block. A large round handle appears at the top center of the block that when you click and drag rotates the block depending on the distance of the drag. A long drag rotates the element block a lot while a short one moves it just a few degrees.

The photo editor also allows you to remove red eye, adjust brightness, contrast, saturation and sharpen the image. The only effects the software include are the options to change the image to black and white or sepia. Print Creations also has a tool called “Face Cleaning” which the developer states is to subtly remove wrinkles, redness and large pores in the faces of the image’s subjects. As we tried it out on several photos, we didn’t notice much of a difference. The drop shadow feature is limited to use with text. We couldn’t figure out how to apply a shadow to an image.

Print Creations projects can be formatted for emailing or output as a JPG, TIFF or BMP image to be printed. Photobooks are output as SWF files (Shockwave files). You can also order hardbound books through Print Creations’ online store.
