Our third choice and "TopTenREVIEWS Bronze Award" winner is My Scrapbook 2 from Ulead. My Scrapbook 2 includes nearly all the features offered by our top ranked products, but the standout trait is the programâs photo editing capability..
We felt My Scrapbook 2 could have been more user–friendly. The opening screen resembles the Windows Start Menu, featuring lists of files.
We were impressed with the photo editing features My Scrapbook 2 had to offer. These editing tools ranged from simple red eye removal to a vast array of light and color editing tools. You can even import video clips.
My Scrapbook 2 offers an average selection of preset templates, and the page orientation option allows you to select various page sizes. You can manipulate frames by resizing, moving, layering, deleting or adding, and it’s easy to adjust photos to fit.
You can import images from digital cameras, scanners, hard drive or disc and you can import video with this program—a feature few scrapbook programs offer.
It took us a few extra steps to access files stored on our computer; we’d prefer a one–click operation.
You can share your finished projects by email, through a web gallery (at www.iMiRA.com—the $25 posting fee is currently waived). You can also save scrapbook projects to CD. My Scrapbook 2 includes all the sharing options that top scrapbooking software should offer.
You can organize scrapbook projects as single layouts or save as group projects in albums. Only half the scrapbooking software we reviewed allowed for such organizing flexibility.
The help section in My Scrapbook 2 contains plenty of information, but it’s not as good at explaining how to use the features and tools as we’d like. It does a good job of telling you where to find things but not necessarily how to do it.
There is an online tutorial for the Photo Express editing feature. You can also get information from a FAQs section online as well as a customer user forum. Customer support is available by telephone and email.
Though powerful with plenty of editing tools, the opening screen on My Scrapbook 2 may intimidate novice computer users. We’d recommend Scrapbook Factory Deluxe and Creating Keepsakes for those unfamiliar with operating system navigation, a system that My Scrapbook 2 is based on.
Finding files won’t be a big deal for those familiar with computers. After you become familiar with navigation, the photo editing features are worth the trouble.
